Brixton was born just a few hours before we took our first picture together.
I’m one month old today!!! Yeah, it’s pretty cool. For my birthday I decided to start tracking things with my eyes! Yay milestones! 😀
Today Mom and Dad took me for my first dip in our hot tub!
Mom and Dad mailed out my birth announcements today! Dad sketched the tree, Mom took the photos and Mom’s friend Marisa of Risa Rocks It (www.RisaRocksIt.com) put it all together!
In three weeks I’ve grown one and a half inches in length, a half inch in head circumference, and a little more than a half pound!
Now that I’m three weeks old I’m ready to start meeting lots of new people.
Mom had a bad case of pancreatitis when she was still pregnant with me and Thursday night she got to take her third ride in an ambulance and get admitted to the hospital again. Special low fat, dairy-free diet notwithstanding, the pancreatitis was back and worse than ever. At first they thought a gallstone had actually slipped out of her gallbladder and into her pancreas. In that case she would need a procedure to get the stone out of the pancreas before she could have my gallbladder removed. They planned on her being there through Monday or Tuesday and spending our first Mother’s Day in the hospital where they won’t let Mom breastfeed me or even be alone unsupervised with me because I’m not a patient and they won’t take responsibility for me. Oh and Thursday night they wouldn’t let Dad sleep in the perfectly good, empty bed next to Moms because the hospital is full and the bed is reserved so Mom and Dad squeezed into her tiny bed together while I slept beside them in my stroller. The charge nurse was doing everything in her power to discourage us from having Dad, and especially me, stay in the hospital with Mom. Plus so many things were broken from the thermostat/AC, to the fan, to the remote for the lights, to the darn hospital breast pump! They fixed the fan and replaced the pump but that charge nurse wouldn’t let us move to a room with a working AC. It was a really annoying night at Florida Hospital Altamonte. Friday morning we got all kinds of apologies from the assistant nurse manager and was told that she didn’t know why the charge nurse had given us such a hard time about the bed and the room. All the staff nurses were very confused about what had happened that night, with the bed especially. Dad was given the second bed first thing Friday morning with the understanding that if the bed was needed he’d have to give it up. Mom finally had an MRI around noon Friday and it turned out fine, thank goodness. No escaped gallstones. My Granni hired a postpartum doula from my birth center to help us out for a few hours each afternoon and to take the overnight shift so Mom and Dad could get some sleep. Many thanks to Granni for making that much needed assistance happen. And many thanks to Mary from Inspiration Family Birth Center for providing amazing postpartum doula services. Last night Mom and Dad got their first full nights sleep in two weeks! Mary also rounded up a TON of donated breast milk so I’ve been off formula since 11pm Friday night! I was only on formula for a little over 24 hours.
Mom had the gallbladder removed yesterday morning with zero complications and she’s feeling better than she has in months! She had solid food for lunch and had no adverse reaction to it. They’re keeping her until the morning for observation but at least we get to spend most of our first Mother’s Day out of the hospital. Dad and I are treating Mom to a day at the spa as soon as she feels up to it and when we arrived home we found this waiting for us:
Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
It’s my first bath!!! Dad is all geared up and ready to go. I like the warm water but I am so cold when bath time is over! I really like it when Dad swaddles me up though. 🙂
Yesterday we went back to the birth center to check my billi levels once again. Just got the results – 4.6! Hooray! I’m all better!
